Our Story

Vera Clean started at home. Mariana Cuza developed it while caring for her husband, Michael.

Why Mariana developed Vera

In 1996, weeks before their daughter Alina was born, Michael was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).

By 2006 he was in a wheelchair. By 2013 he had a catheter and was in and out of hospital with urinary tract infections.

The cleaning products his specialists recommended weren’t working, and Mariana couldn’t find anything that cleaned properly without harsh chemicals.

So she set out to develop her own. Her grandmother, Veronica, had used plant-based recipes to keep her family and village clean during and after the Second World War. Mariana started there, and spent years working with doctors and other experts to develop Vera Clean's formula.

How Vera came together

Years of testing before it was ready for other homes.

  1. 2013 First trials at home

    Mariana updated Veronica’s recipe with help from scientists and a herbalist, and started using it at home.

  2. 2018 Ready for other homes

    After years of lab tests and trials, Mariana was confident Vera was ready for other families.

  3. 2019 Commercial launch

    Vera went on sale to the public, first to families and carers who had heard about it from Mariana.

  4. 2020 Full production

    Vera went into full production with an Australian laboratory, as an alcohol-free choice when most cleaners relied on alcohol and harsh chemicals.

  5. Today A Perth-based small business

    Mariana still cares for Michael, runs Vera Clean, and is available to help people use Vera and clean effectively. You can book a free call with her below.
